EXCLUSIVE: Interview with SHALLOW!

By Miho Murai

I found him in the lockerroom; hand massaging the back of his neck. As I've never been hit in the back of the head with a lead pipe before, I can't imagine what it could feel like. But the feeling is par for the course for the former SRW Champion, and current OJ-FWA competitor, SHALLOW.

EDITORIAL: SRW - The Hardcore History of Shore Road Wrestling

By Johnny Walters

Some of you who watch OJ-FWA may be familiar with the indy promotion SRW. The no-nonsense, smash-mouthed, in-your-face style became the best-kept secret in the New York pro-wrestling scene. In fact, several OJ-FWA performers got their start in SRW. The Spoiler wrestled here for a while before having his career take off in Japan's NOJ. Liliana, while she full-timed as a automobile magazine model, got her start, and perhaps helped define who she was as the "Hardcore Italirican," wrestling for SRW.

However, the story isn't exactly the best for all who came from the promotion. Soon after the promotion's demise, OJ-FWA picked up three of the promotion's top stars: SHALLOW, Russ Morgan, and Trent Frost. SHALLOW and Russ Morgan's ascent in the world of Japanese pro-wrestling in general, and OJ-FWA in particular, while steady, have not set the world on fire. And in the most tragic case, Trent Frost left OJ-FWA after suffering a loss at Yuuki Matsuri 2007.

So, why is it that while Spoiler and Liliana have done well for themselves, arguably the three most important participants in SRW history have not? This is what I hope to find out.

You see, I have a bit of a stake in this. I worked for SRW during this time. This is my recollection of the "hardcore history" of Shore Road Wrestling!

EDITORIAL: Storm Sandy has some OJ-FWA Competitors Worried

by: Johnny Walters

Storm Sandy couldn't be farther away from Japan. The storm, while causing many on the northeastern coast of the United States may be causing many to run to their local shops and convenience stores to stock up on food, water and generators, but people living in Japan have absolutely no need for concern. While many are staying inside fearing for their lives, the Japanese are just living their daily lives, most quite oblivious to what's going on. This storm has even caused this man, Connecticut Governor Malloy, to state the following:

“This is the largest threat to human life that our state has experienced in anyone’s lifetime."

And yet most in Japan are left with little to no feelings on the matter.

Except, of course, those with family in the region, like former SRW competitors and current OJ-FWA talent Liliana, Russ Morgan, and SHALLOW.

Liliana, a resident of Long Island, NY, has had the following to say: "I've talked to my friends back home, and they all say that there's already a ton of flooding. My mom refuses to go outside, and I think my pop will go nuts not being able to leave the house. They need their space."

Russ Morgan, nicknamed Mister Suplex, has family and friends in Connecticut: "My father always panics about these things. Most of the time, he is just overly cautious. However, after Gov. Malloy said that stuff about the storm being the 'largest threat to human life,' now he's REALLY in a full-on panic. I want to tell him it's just another one of his things, but last year the storm hit pretty bad right around this time. I'm worried about him."

SHALLOW, the man who's major claim to fame is to have never lost via submission, also expresses concern, as perhaps he has the most to worry about: "I was Skyping with my dad, and he said that gramma was admitted to the hospital after being knocked down by the wind. He also said that they are trying to move her and other patients to another hospital, as they're concerned the power will get knocked out."

It is clear that while for most in Japan, the threat of Storm Sandy is barely a blip on the Japanese radar, there are still many people close to us here in OJ-FWA for whom it is MUCH more.

BLOGS - Shallow 2/14/2011

Hey guys. Figured I'd try this new blog feature here on the site (how about instead of new features, we update the champions page? j/k) I gotta tell ya about what happened to me today.

The picture you see here is what I found waiting for me in my mail slot this morning at the dojo.

It also came with a note. Heres what it said:

"To SHALLOW:

I hope you are passing a fun VALENTINE DAY!
Prease enjoy this choco!
You will always be my favolite! I see every game!

Maki (*^_^*)"

That's pretty nice! First time Ive got anything from a fan, and on Valentine's no less!

Well, in any case, I have to prep for my tag with Morgan against Team Mullet 2k.

Never quit. Never submit.
